Meditation is a three step procedure that results in a state of awareness that gives serenity, clarity, and bliss. Our “normal” way of thinking is in fact quite abnormal. We acquire sensory stimuli and respond in a totally uncontrolled way (although we tell ourselves we’ve got great control). We rebound from one thought to another and stick with our psychological and physical reactions. The identical thought can lead to diametrically reverse responses at various times. For example, we might see a dog and then begin a thought process that reminisces about a pet dog we had and loved. Emotionally, we then start experiencing all warm and cuddly; physically, we feel very peaceful. Another time, we might see the same dog and fear it might attack us and begin thinking paranoid thoughts, get fearful and uptight physically.
